About the Journal

Jurnal Edukasi dan Pendidikan Unggul Nusantara (JEPUN) is an open access scholarly journal published by Edusima. JEPUN publishes original research articles in the broad field of education, covering various educational levels from early childhood to higher education, with a particular emphasis on manuscripts that highlight the Nusantara context and contribute to excellent educational practice.

JEPUN is published 2 (two) times a year, in June and December. Every submitted manuscript undergoes double-blind review by at least 2 (two) reviewers in the relevant field, along with similarity checking using Turnitin, to maintain the quality and scientific integrity of every published article.

JEPUN is committed to the principle of open access, ensuring that all articles can be freely accessed, read, and downloaded at no cost. JEPUN does not charge any fees to authors, either at the submission or publication stage.

Focus and Scope

Jurnal Edukasi dan Pendidikan Unggul Nusantara (JEPUN) is a scholarly journal that publishes original research articles in the broad field of education, covering various educational levels (early childhood, primary, secondary, and higher education). JEPUN particularly welcomes manuscripts that:

1.    Are rooted in the Indonesian (Nusantara) context, addressing local wisdom, Indonesia's cultural and geographical diversity, educational challenges across regions (including underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost/3T areas), or the application of local values in learning practices; and/or

2.    Contribute to excellent (best) practice, producing or evaluating innovations, models, methods, or solutions proven to improve the quality of educational processes or outcomes.

Topics accepted include, but are not limited to:

•     Educational psychology and guidance counseling

•     Character education and local values

JEPUN welcomes various types of manuscripts, including original research articles (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method), literature reviews, and other relevant manuscripts, provided they follow scholarly writing standards and offer a clear scholarly contribution, particularly those aligned with the spirit of highlighting the Nusantara context and excellent educational practice.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to JEPUN must comply with the journal's focus and scope as well as its author guidelines. Submitted manuscripts must demonstrate novelty or scholarly contribution relevant to the journal's focus and scope.

Every manuscript must be free from plagiarism. Editors will check the similarity level of each manuscript using Turnitin software prior to the review stage.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will undergo double-blind review by at least 2 (two) reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript's field. In this process, the author's identity is concealed from reviewers, and the reviewer's identity is concealed from authors, in order to maintain the objectivity of the assessment.

Reviewers provide evaluations and feedback aimed at improving the quality of the manuscript. The final decision on manuscript acceptance is made by the Editor based on the reviewers' recommendations. Publication of accepted manuscripts, including their publication order, is determined by the Editor in Chief, taking into account the accepted date and thematic suitability with the issue.

Open Access Policy

JEPUN is an open access journal that provides immediate open access to its entire content, based on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports greater global exchange of knowledge. All articles may be read, downloaded, copied, distributed, printed, searched, or linked to in full text, free of charge and without requiring prior permission from the publisher or author. This policy is in accordance with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

JEPUN's publication ethics and malpractice statement refers to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers.

A. Publication and Authorship

•     All submitted manuscripts undergo double-blind review by at least 2 (two) reviewers with relevant expertise.

•     Factors considered in the review include relevance, soundness, significance, originality, readability, and language quality.

•     Possible decisions include acceptance, acceptance with revisions, or rejection.

•     Manuscripts invited for revision are not guaranteed acceptance after revision.

•     Rejected manuscripts will not be re-reviewed.

•     Manuscript acceptance is subject to applicable legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

•     No research may be published in more than one publication.

B. Authors' Responsibilities

•     Authors must ensure the submitted manuscript is original work.

•     Authors must ensure the manuscript has not been previously published elsewhere.

•     Authors must ensure the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere.

•     Authors must participate in the peer review process, including responding to reviewer feedback in a timely manner.

•     Authors must provide corrections or retractions when errors are found in a published manuscript.

•     All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the research.

•     Authors must ensure all data presented in the manuscript are genuine and authentic.

•     Authors must notify the Editor of any conflicts of interest.

•     Authors must identify all sources used in preparing the manuscript.

•     Authors must report any errors discovered in their published manuscript to the Editor.

C. Reviewers' Responsibilities

•     Reviewers must keep the manuscript under review confidential and treat it as privileged information.

•     Reviews must be conducted objectively, without personal criticism of the author.

•     Reviewers must express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

•     Reviewers must identify relevant published work not cited by the authors.

•     Reviewers must notify the Editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and any other published work.

•     Reviewers must decline to review a manuscript if they have a conflict of interest with the authors, institutions, or parties connected to the manuscript.

D. Editors' Responsibilities

•     Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject a manuscript.

•     Editors are responsible for the content and overall quality of the publication.

•     Editors always consider the needs of authors and readers in improving the quality of the publication.

•     Editors guarantee the quality of the manuscripts and the integrity of the academic record.

•     Editors publish errata or make corrections when necessary.

•     Editors maintain a clear understanding of the research's funding sources.

•     Editors base their decisions solely on a manuscript's importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope.

•     Editors do not reverse or overturn previous editorial decisions without serious reason.

•     Editors preserve the confidentiality of reviewers' identities.

•     Editors ensure all published research material conforms to internationally accepted ethical guidelines.

•     Editors only accept a manuscript when reasonably certain of its quality.

•     Editors act on suspected misconduct, whether the manuscript is published or unpublished, and make reasonable efforts to resolve the issue.

•     Editors do not reject manuscripts based on suspicion alone without proof of misconduct.

•     Editors do not allow conflicts of interest among staff, authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.

Policy on the Use of GenAI

This policy governs the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI assisted technologies in the preparation of manuscripts submitted to JEPUN, aiming to ensure transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the scientific record.

AI cannot be considered an author, as it cannot take responsibility for the content, integrity, or originality of a work. Authors remain fully responsible for the entire content of the manuscript, including any parts generated or assisted by AI, and must verify the accuracy of any statements, data, or references produced by AI.

The use of AI must be clearly disclosed by the authors, including the name of the tool used, the purpose of its use (for example, language editing, drafting an initial version of a specific section, or assisting with data analysis), and the extent of the AI's contribution. This disclosure may be included in the Acknowledgements section, the Methods section (if AI was used in a methodological step), or as a separate statement before the References section.

AI may be used to assist with language and grammar editing, drafting initial versions of non core sections, brainstorming ideas, and assisting with data analysis (with full verification by the authors), provided proper disclosure is made.

The use of AI is prohibited for generating fictitious data or references, substituting human intellectual contribution in formulating hypotheses or interpreting original findings, or being used by reviewers and editors on confidential manuscripts. Violations of this policy may result in manuscript rejection, retraction of a published article, or a ban on future submissions.

Publication Frequency

JEPUN is published 2 (two) times a year, in June and December. The journal is committed to maintaining a consistent publication schedule as part of good journal management, with each issue targeted to contain at least 5 (five) scientific articles.

Author Fees

JEPUN does not charge any fees to authors, either at the submission stage or upon publication of an article.

This policy is intended to support broader access for authors. This fee policy may be reviewed in the future, and any changes will be publicly announced on the journal's website prior to implementation.

Copyright Notice

Authors agree to transfer the copyright of the article to JEPUN upon publication. The journal then holds the copyright for the published version of the article.

All published articles are made available under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, reproduction, and adaptation in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

This open license ensures that the content remains freely accessible and reusable in accordance with the principles of open access.
